BARONESS ELSA VON FREYTAG-LORINGHOVEN (1874–1927) was an
avant-garde artist and poet. Born in Germany she spent her early years moving
between France, Italy, and Switzerland. Moving to North America in 1910, she
settled in New York a couple years later, where she became closely aligned with
the Dada arts movement, often modeling for Duchamp and making her own
paintings, sculptures, and poems.
